Food Food Food!!
Food is a very essential part of everyone's life. It is not only essential for survival, but is essential because we use it to communicate, bring back other memories, and even use it to sometimes show our religion. In earlier days, food could show your social status. It also could show your power and wealth. Nearly everyone would say that food is one of the most important aspects of life.
When I was a child, I didn't appreciate food as much as I should of. I was a very picky eater, and as the first born, I was also somewhat spoiled. My mother would make me just about anything I wanted; which on most occasions was either chicken nuggets or pizza. Oh, did i mention I wasn't the healthiest eater either? I ate a few other food items, but not very many. My mom would always try to get me to try new food, but I never would. If she did get me to try something new, I already had it set in my mind that I wasn't going to like it, so I would normally cringe and spit the food out. I was a picky eater for most of my life, but things did change. As I hit my adolescent years, I started trying new things and learned to like most of them. It seemed as if my life opened up to something new. I started eating fruits and vegetables and always had an open mind when trying new food I've never tasted. Just recently I had eaten sushi. I had always told myself I would never try it, but my brother was finally able to talk me into it. I tried the sushi thinking I wouldn't like it, but realized it truly wasn't that bad. I finally then believed I could relieve myself of the name "picky eater."
Food has a definite way of bringing back memories. I don't have too many memories with food as a child because I was so picky, but I do remember my grandmother's tater tot casserole. She only made it on special occasions like Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and my birthday. I remember always waiting for my grandma to get there just so I could get some of the casserole. I remember one yer she cooked the casserole at my house and burnt it nearly to a crisp. I was devastated. I had to go even longer without my grandmother's famed tater tot casserole. Another vivid memory of food is the cheese soup my Aunt made. She would make it for me nearly every time I came over and would always put it in my special genie bowl (from Aladdin). This memory brought back others that I had with family. This shows that food really has a powerful effect on family get together and other memories that you may have. This also shows how food can be very important in your life other than just to eat or survive.
