There are many ways to eat a pizza starting with the bread. You can have white, wheat, or other types of crust based on what appeals to you. The type and amount of cheese and toppings you put on a pizza are nearly endless. You can literally put anything on a pizza that you would like. It is believed that the pizza we know and love today cam from Naples, Italy. Back when it was first made, around 1000 AD, pizza was called focaccia and it was mainly for poor people. Theses poor people had no way to store their food, so they would just put their food on thin slices of bread, thus making pizza.They could put meat, vegetables, and anything else they wanted on this pizza.
It took nearly 800 years for pizza to become more popular. Around 1830, the first all pizza restaurant opened. The pizza of that time was still a little different than the pizza we know today. She decided to try pizza for the first time and Don Raffaele Esposito created a special pizza just for her. He made this pizza with three special toppings. The first was mozzarella cheese made from buffalo milk, next was red tomatoes, and finally, he topped it off with basil leaves. The queen loved this pizza and it is still a very popular pizza preference in Italy today. Pizza was no longer considered a poor person's food after this event.
